The appearance of the internet along with social media did not only alter the ways of obtaining information or our communication, it also changed our world, our relationship to pieces (of art) and also the time and attention we spend on them, even our capabilities to concentrate. We pick up on news on social media sites, a bunch of seemingly important information that are in fact useless; we make friends here, this is the place where we find out where to go and what to see.

There are only a few posts that capture our attention for more than a few seconds, thus most people don’t use facebook for its thought-provoking content. However there are a couple of public pages that owe their popularity to not being empty and temporary like other posts. The one or two weekly shares of Zoltan.Pictures – the facebook page of photographer Zoltán Vancsó – belong in this category. These manifestations stand out so prominently from the cavalcade but lack spectacle and violence.

The popular publications of Zoltán consist of a short quote, a few sentences and an original photo by him. The relationship between picture and text is just as interesting as the photograph itself. How do they overlap, how do they increase each other’s meaning, how will the sentence become more mysterious and powerful through the picture? The longer we’re looking at the album, the clearer it becomes that the pairings are not random at all.

Zoltán’s intention is exactly to encourage us to slow down, contemplate and introspect, which is so unlike most facebook posts. | László Kolozsi, author
If you would like to know what kind of pictures are featured in this photo album of 176 pages, all you have to do is thoroughly look around on Zoltán’s facebook page, where the photos were introduced week by week between 2010 and 2016.
